A stuffed animal or a warm blanket can mean so much to a child or an elderly person in difficult circumstances. Sometimes, a Gift of Love is just the thing.

Gifts of Love is a mission project started by Karen Collins of Stewart. For the past two years, Collins has collected blankets and toys from the community and has been able to distribute items to families in need after a house fire, after a tornado, and other disasters happening to residents in Montgomery and Webster Counties. She also works with Winona Manor Nursing Home and Mission Hope Ministries in Montgomery County, as well as Golden Living Nursing Home and a school or church in Webster County. Gifts of Love event set for tonight

Be sure to stop by the Stewart Fire Department today from 5-7 p.m. to share a few “Gifts of Love” with needy children and elderly residents of the community.

“I work with kids everyday so I know there is a need in Webster County as well as Montgomery County,”  said Karen Collins, project director for Gifts of Love. “And as far the elderly, they just want ’love’ and to know the are wrapped up in a blanket you gave out of love is an awesome feeling.” Continue reading →

Gifts of Love collection set for TONIGHT

1903253_727664747286103_1167183999_nLast month, your donations to Gifts of Love allowed the group to donate 15 blankets to the tornado victims in the  Louisville area.”Thanks to everyone who has given,” said Karen Collins of Gifts of Love. “You never know when something tragic will happen or when it may be you in need!”Collins will be at the Stewart Fire Department from 5-7 p.m. TONIGHT to collect blankets and toys for those in need.

‘Gifts of Love’ can make all the difference in a time of crisis

According to the Mississippi Kids Count data for Webster County, 21.5 percent of the county’s population live below the poverty level, and of the population of people from ages 0-18, 32 percent live in poverty.

“There is a great need right here in Webster County — it’s mind-boggling,” said Freda Jones, county director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services in Webster County. “A lot of time, we have kids that are transported to different places due to abuse or other situations and many times they have to go without any belonging. To have anything, like a blanket or a stuffed animal to call their own, is so important. There are so many children right here in Webster County that have great needs.”

Karen Collins works as the office secretary at Eupora Elementary School, and on a day-to-day basis, the needs of the community are evident in lots of little faces. Continue reading →

‘Gifts of Love’ collection set for April 8

1801012_727664740619437_1411961160_n The “Gifts of Love”  Toy & Blanket Collection will be from 5-7 p.m. TUESDAY at the Stewart Fire Department! Please consider the gift of a toy or a blanket for those in need in Webster and Montgomery counties.

People from throughout the community are asked to bring warm blankets and toys by the fire department on the designated day or residents can drop “gifts of love” by Ann’s Flowers and Crafts in Stewart. Karen Collins will host a blanket and toy drive event monthly throughout the year.

Gifts of Love donations will go to churches, schools and nursing homes in Webster County and to Mission Hope and Winona Manor in Montgomery County. For more information or to make a donation to the Gifts of Love program, contact Ann’s Flowers and Crafts at (662) 262-7154.
