Belinda Stewart loves old buildings and historic places


She has always enjoyed listening to stories of local history. And those stories and those buildings lead to her fascination with architecture.

Belinda Stewart of Belinda Stewart Architecture will share her love of old buildings and historic places in Webster County at the October JOY Club potluck luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 31 in the First Baptist Church of Eupora fellowship hall.  After a few brief announcements, lunch will be served. There will be a brief devotion around noon, and then Stewart will share a powerpoint presentation about some of her favorite historic homes in the area.

Stewart said she is not sure which is the oldest building in Webster County, but there are several very early log cabins that are mostly in ruin, but still around. The oldest building still in use is the Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, originally built around 1820, with the current building constructed in the 1840’s or 1850’s. Continue reading

Project Manager for Belinda Stewart Architects, Stephanie Stewart said many of the comments she has heard after the renovation were, “It looks like it was always suppose to be like this.”

That commitment to restoring the historical accuracy of Eupora’s First Baptist Church sanctuary has brought Belinda Stewart Architects and First Baptist Church of Eupora state-wide recognition. On Tuesday, the FBC Eupora Restoration Project was one of 40 projects throughout the state of Mississippi to receive a 2014 Heritage Award. The award for restoration was presented at a special luncheon at 11:30 a.m. today at the J.J. Rogers Building in Tupelo as part of the Listen Up! Historic Preservation Conference. Continue reading

FBC Eupora Sanctuary Restoration wins preservation award


It was a hot dusty summer, but the hard work paid off in a beautiful, historic sanctuary restoration.

And now, the First Baptist Church Restoration has been chosen by a jury of preservationists from across the state to receive a 2014 Heritage Award for Restoration, by the Mississippi Heritage Trust. Belinda Stewart Architects, PA, submitted the project and their hard work and accomplishment will be honored at the heritage Awards Luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 10 at the J.J. Rogers Building in downtown Tupelo.

The awards luncheon will be held in conjunction with  the 2014  Listen Up! Historic Preservation Conference. Tickets for the luncheon can be purchased for $25 online at http://www.listenUPms.com.
