WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE CHURCH YOU ARE SERVING?
What I love about serving Maben is that I’ve been there 8 years now, and I’ve developed relationships with all the members. We are a family. With that comes ups and downs… Good times and bad times… But we manage to support each other and get through. There is great potential in Maben UMC, and I continue to strive to help the congregation realize how wonderfully blessed with God’s good gifts they are!
ABOUT THE CHURCH:
HOW MANY YEARS HAS THIS CHURCH BEEN WORSHIPING GOD TOGETHER? Our church was built in 1959, and James Price was pastor. We believe church was organized, in 1894, and was blown down by a tornado in 1906, and rebuilt. It was a few years after our present church was built, before the old church was torn down. It was used for a boy scout meeting place, before the boy scouts started using the agriculture class room at Maben High school. Mr. Edward Sanders Jr. bought the bricks from the old church, after it was torn down.
WHAT MINISTRIES IS THIS CHURCH KNOWN FOR? Maben is known in the community for the Men’s Club Breakfasts and the UMW “Margaret Holland Circle. ” Both clubs continue to meet monthly and do service projects to help the elderly and several organizations, including French Camp Radio, UM Children’s Home, and St. Jude’s Hospital. Maben is also known for our “Souper Bowl of Caring” that we hold on super bowl Sunday every year. This is a day when we collect canned goods and money to donate to a food pantry and money to Society of St Andrew. Now that we are on a charge with LaGrange, this has become a charge wide event!
