Jeff Harrell, manager of Postal Operations for the United States Postal Service, passes out survey results at Monday night’s town meeting at the Masonic Lodge in Bellefontaine to discuss the future of the Bellefontaine Post Office. Harrell said closing was no longer “on the table” for the Bellefontaine Post Office. The meeting was to share survey results and discuss proposed reduced hours. Over 25 people attended Monday night’s meeting. Bellefontaine residents suggested the post office be open from 8 a.m. until noon. The post office will remain full- time until the current postmaster, Bonnie Pepper, retires. If Pepper does not retire before Jan. 1, 2015, the post office will go to four hours a day at that time. Harrell also proposed a time lock for the building allowing customers access to their mail from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. Final decisions will be made regarding retail hours within one to two weeks of submitting survey and town hall information.
